First set of user stories prioritised

On Monday, Andrew, our resident metagenomics researcher and Jeff the project manager spent several hours poring over the ~90 user stories we have collected so far to discuss and rank them into order of priority so the development team can start to work towards building the system.

The stories that were chosen to initially focus on encapsulate aspects that will be required to build a basic system illustrated below where users will be able to:

  • visit the BPA Data Portal,
  • select data from specific soil/water collection sites,
  • select from three different analysis types (taxonomic diversity, relative OTU abundance or NMDS ordination),
  • add in some parameters for the analysis and then press 'go' and
  • access the outputs
Additionally, the system will work for researchers who are not part of the consortia and who may wish to bring their own OTU abundance tables directly into Galaxy Australia for the stats and plotting functions.

These user stories can be seen in our Trello board in the 'sprint backlog' column. We'll use this Trello Board to manage the IT implementation through a series of sprints, and it's public so you can look at it at any point to see what we're working on. The user stories will move to the right through the different columns in the Trello board as we build up the necessary functionalities to close off each user story.

Sprint planning by the whole dev team is next to decide what we can realistically achieve in the next few sprints...
